RPTS/HMGT 489 and HMGT 689
Course Description
Survey and application of principles of tourism, hospitality and recreation; selected aspects of management in an operational setting. May be repeated for credit.
Course Purpose: This course is designed to help students correlate what they learn in the classroom with what is done in the industry. Disney has long been admired for their customer service, innovation, and the way they provide hospitality. This course takes them on property to learn from Disney professionals and to see how the theories they have learned in their classes on campus can be put into practice in the real world with a Disney perspective. They will also attend 3 classes, as part of the Disney College Program to learn directly from Disney professionals about how Disney culture is infused into everything they do. This course will include the pre-trip classes where we will study Disney hospitality and how Disney has innovated throughout the years. While on property, we will take the three Disney College course titled: Disney Leadership, Disney Theme Park Design, and Disney Teamwork. We will also meet with Disney professionals to learn about their careers and how they moved into their roles within the organization so students gain an understanding of the leadership model that Disney employs within the organization and parks.
